Windshield insurance in Georgia — what KASKO covers

How insurers in Georgia cover chip repair and glass replacement, what the deductible includes, what photos a claim needs, and why BESTAUTO only works on direct payment.

Windshield insurance is a topic where half of Tbilisi car owners fall into one of two traps. First: they assume any glass repair is covered by KASKO, then learn that for a chip up to 1 cm the deductible is higher than the work cost and filing makes no sense. Second: they think out-of-pocket repair without KASKO is huge money, and drive for months with a growing crack until a 60 ₾ repair window has been replaced by a 1500 ₾ replacement. Below — how windshield coverage actually works under KASKO in Georgia, what documents are needed, what the deductible is, and why out-of-pocket repair with us is in most cases cheaper than filing a claim.

What KASKO covers on the windshield — standard package

In the Georgian car KASKO market the windshield is covered by every major insurer: Aldagi, GPI Holding, IRAO, TBC Insurance, Imedi L and others. Specific glass terms differ, but the general structure across most policies looks like this.

Glass replacement on a crack reaching the edge or in the driver's zone. Repair is impossible (see the separate article on deep cracks), and the insurer pays for new glass plus installation. Exact glass and installation pricing is quoted by the specialist shop based on model, sensors, heating and ADAS camera (plus calibration if needed). Covered fully or with a deductible.

Chip or short-crack repair. Some policies cover this (usually with a minimum deductible or none), some do not (treated as cosmetic). The gap between insurers can be significant — one policy includes any glass repair, another carves chip repair out as a paid add-on.

Glass replacement after a through-puncture. Rare but expensive: vandalism, fallen branch, accident. Covered fully with documents in hand (police report for vandalism, scene photos).

What is usually NOT covered.

  • Glass replacement "on request" (no visible damage, just to improve clarity).
  • Glass that cracked because of a pre-existing chip not repaired in time — some policies treat this as "consequence of neglect".
  • Damage to third parties (your kicked-up stone hitting someone else's glass — that is third-party liability, not your KASKO).

Concrete terms — only in your policy. We see different combinations every month, and the universal advice is: before doing a repair under insurance, read the "glass" section of the policy or call the agent.

Deductible and where the "claim vs pay" line runs

The main money factor in glass KASKO is the deductible (საფრანშიზო). It is the amount you pay out of pocket on any covered claim; the insurer covers everything above that.

In Georgia, a standard KASKO deductible runs 100 to 500 ₾ depending on the policy. Cheap policies (low annual cost) usually carry a high deductible, premium policies — low or zero.

What this means for the windshield in practice.

Deductible 200 ₾, chip repair costs 60–80 ₾. Filing a claim makes no sense — you pay the full repair cost out of pocket because it never reaches the deductible. You also lose time on paperwork and possibly take a coefficient on your next policy (some insurers raise rates after filed claims).

Deductible 200 ₾, 15–30 cm crack repair costs 140 ₾. Same logic — under the deductible, pay yourself. If the crack were 35+ cm and the repair no longer fits — that is a costly replacement at a specialist shop and filing the claim is profitable.

Deductible 500 ₾, glass replacement on an ADAS-camera car at 3000 ₾. Filing is clearly worth it: you pay 500 ₾ deductible and 0 ₾ for the glass. But mind the possible coefficient on the next policy.

Policy with zero deductible on glass. The most convenient — claim anything above the cost of your time on paperwork (typically from 50 ₾ in work). Such policies cost more than baseline, but with 2–3 cars in the family with normal mileage they pay back fast.

A separate important detail: deductibles often differ for repair and replacement. A policy may cover chip repair without a deductible but require 300 ₾ on a glass replacement. Read both lines in the policy.

Documents and photos a claim needs

Standard set of documents for a windshield claim with most insurers:

1. Insurance claim form. Paper form from the insurer or an electronic submission via the app/site. Filled out with date and time, location, circumstances of the damage (stone from the wheel of a car ahead, fallen branch, parking lot impact).

2. KASKO policy (copy or number).

3. Vehicle technical passport (გაცნობის მოწმობა).

4. Photos of the damage from multiple angles. Minimum: general glass view, close-up of the damage with a measuring strip or known item for scale (coin, key), front and side view of the car. Shoot in daylight, no harsh glare.

5. Police documents (in cases of vandalism, accident, fallen tree). Not needed for a routine "stone from a wheel".

6. Receipt/invoice from the service for the repair or replacement. Comes in after the work is done and the insurer reimburses.

Standard sequence:

  • Damage spotted — photo on the day of discovery.
  • Within 24–72 hours (depends on policy terms) submit the claim with photos and base documents.
  • Insurer issues a referral to a service from their list, or authorises a visit to any service of your choice.
  • Work done, receipt paid, reimbursement to your account minus the deductible.

Modern Georgian insurers have moved to electronic processes in 2023–2025: Aldagi, TBC Insurance, IRAO and others have mobile apps for filing a claim and uploading photos in 10 minutes, no office visit. Confirm the process with your specific company.

Why BESTAUTO does not work directly with insurers

An important practical point we want to call out honestly.

BESTAUTO works on direct client payment only. We are not on corporate contracts with insurers, do not invoice insurers directly, and do not run the "insurer referral → free repair for client → insurer reimburses us" model.

Why. Corporate insurer contracts oblige a service to give fixed (usually below-market) rates, work in a "client list" format, fit the insurer's paperwork cycles, and absorb payment delay risk (insurers sometimes pay services 30–60 days out). For our model — a small studio focused on individual quality and quick turnaround — that does not work.

What it means for a client with KASKO.

Option 1. Go to the insurer's authorised service. If your insurer works with specific studios — the glass gets replaced there with no money out of your pocket beyond the deductible. Quality and turnaround — at that service's discretion.

Option 2. Go to the studio of your choice, pay for the work yourself, then submit the receipt to the insurer and get reimbursed. If your policy allows (most modern KASKO does), this gives you studio choice and quality control. You spend the same money (insurer reimburses), but the cycle is longer: payment → receipt → submission → reimbursement, usually 7–30 days between paying and getting it back.

In both cases BESTAUTO remains a possible studio under option two. We issue a detailed receipt with the service, material, date and amount, on which the insurer reimburses. If a more formal stamped invoice is needed — we can issue that too.

This is not a unique situation: many specialised detailing studios in Tbilisi do not run on corporate insurer contracts. If the priority is zero (even temporary) hit on your wallet, go to your insurer's authorised service. If the priority is studio choice and quality, go where you trust, then reimburse.

Out-of-pocket repair pricing — for non-claim cases

If there is no KASKO, or the deductible is higher than the repair cost, or you simply do not want to deal with the insurer over 60 ₾ — our windshield repair pricing:

Chip repair.

  • Chip up to 1 cm — from 60 ₾
  • Chip 1–2 cm — from 80 ₾

Crack repair.

  • Crack up to 15 cm — from 95 ₾
  • Crack 15–30 cm — from 140 ₾

Additional glass services.

  • Windshield polishing — from 250 ₾
  • Side glass polishing — from 150 ₾
  • Windshield grinding — from 400 ₾
  • Side glass grinding — from 300 ₾

All prices are starting "from X ₾"; the final figure on a specific damage is set at the in-person inspection, which takes 5 minutes and is free. Full price list on the windshield repair service page.

We do not do glass replacement — that is a different specialisation (VIN-specific glass sourcing, frame removal, new urethane bonding, occasional sensor reinstallation and ADAS calibration). If the inspection rules out repair and replacement is needed — we say so honestly and suggest Tbilisi services that change glass on your model.

Typical scenarios — what is more efficient in each

To keep this from staying purely theoretical — four common situations for owners in Tbilisi, Georgia and the choice logic in each.

Scenario 1. 1 cm chip, KASKO with 200 ₾ deductible.

Repair costs 60–80 ₾. Below deductible. Pay yourself, do not file. Time: studio visit 30–40 minutes, done same day.

Scenario 2. 25 cm crack, KASKO with 200 ₾ deductible.

Repair costs 140 ₾. Below deductible. Pay yourself, do not file. Time: 60–90 minute visit for crack "stopping".

Scenario 3. 2500 ₾ glass replacement (sensor car), KASKO with 500 ₾ deductible.

Filing is clearly worth it — saves 2000 ₾. Submit claim with photos, choose between insurer's authorised service (no money beyond 500 ₾ deductible) or third-party service (pay 2500 ₾, then 2000 ₾ reimbursed). Time: 1–4 weeks total cycle.

Scenario 4. Glass replacement (mass-market), no KASKO.

Pay full out-of-pocket. On a tight budget — consider salvage yards or non-OEM glass services (usually noticeably cheaper than OEM). We do not advise on replacement glass — that is a different market.

In the first two, going to a studio makes sense right away: small money, insurer not involved anyway, and delay makes the damage worse. Scenario three is sequential: photos and claim immediately, then wait for insurer authorisation, then work. Scenario four is a choice between a new pane at full cost and a used one at half cost on your own risk.

FAQ

Does KASKO in Georgia cover repair of a chip up to 1 cm?

In most standard policies — yes, but it is often pointless because of the deductible. If the policy deductible is 200 ₾ and chip repair costs 60–80 ₾, filing brings no financial benefit (you pay out of pocket either way and lose paperwork time). Worth filing only on glass replacement where the work cost exceeds the deductible. Check your specific deductible in the policy before deciding.

What if the insurer denies coverage on a glass replacement?

The denial usually has two grounds: damage outside policy coverage (e.g. chip repair carved out as an add-on you did not buy), or breach of operating conditions (damage caused by maintenance neglect — a debatable formulation). Action: request a written denial citing the specific policy clause. If the basis is unclear — go to the insurance regulator's office (insurance ombudsman) or an independent lawyer.

Can I get reimbursed if I already repaired the glass before filing?

Most insurers — yes, with one condition: dated "before" photos (with EXIF) and a detailed service receipt. If you repaired without "before" photos, reimbursement is almost impossible — the insurer cannot verify the damage itself. Universal rule: spot the damage — photo first, repair second.

Does BESTAUTO issue documents for the insurer when paying out of pocket?

Yes — at payment we issue a detailed receipt with service, material, date and amount. If the insurer wants an extended invoice or a stamped acceptance act — we can issue that. The insurer reimburses on those documents if the case is covered and the deductible is below the work cost.

How much does a chip or crack repair cost without insurer involvement?

Chip up to 1 cm — from 60 ₾, chip 1–2 cm — from 80 ₾. Crack up to 15 cm — from 95 ₾, crack 15–30 cm — from 140 ₾. Final price on a specific damage is set at the in-person inspection. These prices are at or below most KASKO deductibles in Georgia — for small repairs it is simpler to pay out of pocket than to file a claim.

Conclusion

Windshield insurance in Georgia is a working tool for expensive repairs, a poor fit for cheap ones. A sensor-equipped glass replacement at a specialist is where KASKO saves real money. A 60–80 ₾ chip repair is where it is simpler to pay yourself, especially with a notable policy deductible.

A glass insurance claim always needs photos of the damage — taken before any work, with scale measurement, in normal light. That is the first thing on the day damage is spotted, before any repair decision. Without those photos reimbursement is almost always impossible, even on legitimate damage with correct work.

BESTAUTO works on direct client payment and has no corporate insurer contracts. If the priority is "no money out of your pocket right now" — go to your insurer's authorised service. If the priority is studio choice and quality, pay yourself and reimburse via KASKO afterwards — we issue all the necessary documents.

Key takeaways:

  • KASKO in Georgia usually covers full glass replacement, chip repair often but with a deductible.
  • A typical deductible in the hundreds of lari makes small-repair claims pointless — pay yourself.
  • Full replacement on an ADAS-camera car at a glass specialist is real KASKO savings.
  • Documents: claim form, policy, technical passport, multi-angle photos, service receipt.
  • BESTAUTO does not invoice insurers directly — client pays, then reimburses on policy.
  • Out-of-pocket repair pricing: chip from 60 ₾, crack from 95 ₾.
