Fine marks on black glossy paint can become conspicuous under directional light: swirls appear around the sun's reflection, while previous polishing may leave bands or holograms. Suitable correction can reduce surface defects, but a car's colour does not determine how much correction it needs. Begin with a clean surface, an assessment and an agreed result.
At BESTAUTO in Tbilisi, Georgia, car body polishing starts from 690 ₾. The final quote depends on condition and agreed scope. This guide explains how to describe the concern, distinguish common marks and check the particular area that matters to you.
Different marks on black paint need different decisions
“Scratches” or “dullness” can describe several conditions. Identify a particular area, when you first noticed the mark and the lighting that reveals it. Fine marks on a bonnet, a deep door scratch and product residue do not automatically call for the same treatment across the whole car.
- Swirls. Numerous fine marks, particularly visible around a bright reflection. Assess suitable correction and subsequent care.
- Holograms after polishing. Bands or waves in the reflection that become visible as the light angle changes. Explain earlier work; one photograph cannot establish the cause or full correction scope.
- Surface haze. The reflection looks less distinct. Check contamination, residue and the finish itself before correction.
- A deep isolated mark, chip or failing finish. Each needs its own assessment. Polishing does not replace missing paint or repair a dent.
The Meguiar’s FAQ distinguishes bonded-contamination removal from correction and describes dirt contact during washing as a source of fine marks. This helps define the task; it does not prescribe one product for every finish.

Identify existing PPF, vinyl, matte paint or protective coatings. A painted panel and a film need different assessments; black colour alone is not a reason to choose gloss correction. The gloss, matte and satin guide explains the distinction between finishes.
How to choose black car paint correction
Black does not establish one clear-coat hardness, one compound or a compulsory number of stages. The actual finish, its condition, repainted panels, earlier correction and your expectations matter. Equally dark cars may require different preparation and finishing work.
The RUPES selection system matches tools, pads and compounds to paint type and defects. For the customer, the useful decision is to agree the concern and limits, then choose the method after assessment. A pass count alone does not prove quality.
- Identify the important areas. Show where swirls or bands bother you. Discuss a single panel separately if that is the concern.
- Explain the history. Previous polishing, repainting and protection help assessment. Say when the history is unknown.
- Separate preparation from correction. On a clean surface, clarify which marks remain in the finish and the expected improvement.
- Discuss a test area. A suitable area can help establish possible improvement and limits before the wider scope is chosen.
- Agree the result and stopping point. Which marks should improve, which may remain, which areas need another repair and how the work will be checked.
Less intensive work may suit some fine marks. A more conspicuous defect is not permission for maximum material removal. Preserving the coating takes priority over trying to eliminate every mark. The abrasive correction guide explains the different scope.
A mark felt with a fingernail, repeated earlier correction or unknown repainting calls for careful assessment. A photograph or an isolated instrument reading does not automatically establish a permissible correction depth. Some deeper damage is better reduced in appearance or considered for another repair.
Which photographs help before an inspection?
Send the whole car, the relevant panel and a close-up. On a clean, dry surface, capture a directional-light reflection and another angle. Keep a landmark such as a handle, panel edge or adjacent part so the technician knows which area is shown.
Avoid contrast filters and do not rub dry dust away for a photograph. If the mark is visible only in sunlight, explain that; a short video changing the angle may help describe bands. Include the model, year, previous treatments and main aim: reduce swirls, address suitable earlier-polishing marks or assess a particular scratch.
Photographs begin the conversation and help arrange a visit. Confirm correction suitability, scope and timing for the vehicle after assessment; an image is not a promise of a fixed result.
Checking swirls and holograms after polishing
Compare the same area under understandable conditions. A wet panel in shade and a dry panel under directional light show different things. Assess whole-car gloss separately from the defect that prompted the visit.
- Compare clean, dry surfaces and clarify the products applied after correction.
- Inspect agreed panels under directional light and at another angle, keeping the same area in view.
- Compare earlier and later images using similar light, camera distance and position.
- Discuss remaining marks: an original-finish limitation or something that needs another check.
- Clarify the completed operations and aftercare before collection.
Finishing after a more intensive step is a distinct part of the work. For example, the Meguiar’s finishing-polish description discusses compounding marks and holograms separately. This explains the finishing role; it does not establish use of that particular product at BESTAUTO.
A corrected surface defect and a temporary change in reflection are different evidence. Ask what was corrected and which protection was applied. The before-and-after guide explains comparable checks. Raise a visible concern with the technician at handover.
How much does black car polishing cost in Tbilisi?
The current BESTAUTO price list shows body polishing from 690 ₾ and a promotional polishing-plus-ceramic offer from 990 ₾. These are general starting offers, not a separate black-paint tariff or a fixed stage count. Agree the scope and total before work.
A useful proposal identifies preparation, panels, correction and finishing, remaining limitations, any chosen protection and the expected completion time. Vehicle size and surface condition matter to the quote; a colour does not describe this scope.
The service page describes polishing for different vehicle surfaces; discuss body paint and the result separately. Ceramic coating is considered as a separate protection option. A coating does not replace correction of existing marks; preparation and care must suit the chosen material.
Caring for dark paint after correction
Discuss compatible products, washing and drying, plus separate instructions for any coating applied. Avoid rubbing dust or road dirt with a dry material; use clean care tools and an appropriate cleaning sequence. Gentle ongoing care is more useful than scheduling fresh correction regardless of condition.
If bands become apparent after a wash, show the same area under comparable lighting and explain the care used. This is not always the original defect returning: assess the surface and applied material. Choose repeat work by condition, as the polishing frequency guide explains.
All services are available at both studios: Saburtalo and Guramishvili. Choose a convenient studio, show the problem panels and agree suitable work. Begin with a description and photographs; determine the method and final quote after assessment.
