How to prepare a car for lease or rental return

Before a lease or rental return, check the provider’s requirements and the car’s actual condition. A wash and ordinary tidying may be enough; persistent stains or finish defects need separate assessment. Choose preparation for the issue at hand and compare the agreed work cost with the confirmed return terms.

Check the return requirements first

Find the agreement’s requirements for condition, equipment and modifications, or request them from the provider. If a clause is unclear, describe the actual defect and ask how it will be assessed. Do not apply another contract’s scratch length, tyre-wear limit or number of keys to your car.

• Compare keys, documents and accessories with the original handover record.
• Check condition against the original photographs and inspection report.
• Clarify requirements for cleanliness, smells, stickers and existing film.
• Ask how inspection, approval of work and the final condition are recorded.

Photographs taken before work can help explain a condition issue. Detailing does not replace a mechanical inspection or the accepting company’s decision.

Routine tidying or deep interior cleaning?

A little dust and loose rubbish do not automatically require a full deep clean. Embedded soiling, persistent stains or substantial pet hair may justify discussing deeper treatment. Interior cleaning is selected for the soiling and materials, not simply because a car is being returned after rental use.

Do not automatically assign the highest price category to a former taxi. Assess its actual condition. Price categories do not represent different scopes of cleaning or mandatory extra services. See the scope and limits of interior cleaning.

For an unpleasant smell, identify the possible source first: soiling, items left inside, dampness or another issue. Ozone at 70 ₾ is a separate service. It is not compulsory after rental use and does not replace fixing a leak or removing an odour source.

When paint polishing may be appropriate

Car polishing starts at 690 ₾; the feasibility of removing or reducing surface defects is assessed after inspecting the finish. It is a separate procedure rather than an automatic requirement for every return.

Polishing does not straighten dents or replace missing paint in a deep chip. Do not choose it from a universal “safe scratch depth”: the finish itself needs assessment. We cannot promise a different acceptance category or compare work with a charge that has not been confirmed.

Should existing film and stickers come off?

Ask the accepting company whether existing PPF, vinyl, tint and advertising stickers are permitted. A film’s good appearance alone does not establish that it is accepted under your agreement. If removal is required, agree the scope and assessment of the film and paint beneath it first.

If the return terms require removal of film or advertising, obtain an assessment of the necessary work in advance. Installation prices cannot be used to calculate removal costs. If you buy and keep the car, future protection can be discussed separately; new PPF should not be ordered on the assumption that it will raise a return assessment.

Prices and scheduling

Interior cleaning at BESTAUTO in Tbilisi: light soiling from 400 ₾, medium from 500 ₾, heavy from 550 ₾. The scope of work is the same for all three price categories; these are not three different packages. More soiling means a higher price, and pet hair also affects the cost. We agree the final price after assessing the interior, before work begins. All services are available at both studios: Saburtalo and Guramishvili.

A two-phase wash including the interior costs 55 ₾ and takes approximately 1.5 hours. A three-phase wash including the interior costs 65 ₾ and takes approximately 2–2.5 hours. Compare wash options and the current price list. These procedures are not a compulsory bundle; the total depends on the work agreed.

Give the studio your return deadline in advance. Agree interior-cleaning time and readiness after drying separately. Do not arrange collection immediately before handover without an agreed completion time.

A short handover plan

1. Check the agreement, original photographs and equipment.
2. Separate normal dirt, persistent soiling and damage.
3. Clarify disputed defects and film requirements with the provider.
4. Agree the work, price and readiness time.
5. At collection, check the result and care instructions.

Common questions

Is a full interior clean compulsory before return?

That depends on the return terms and the cabin’s condition. If ordinary tidying is sufficient, a full deep clean should not be assigned automatically.

Can detailing guarantee that there will be no charges?

No. The provider applies its own conditions, and soiling and damage need different solutions. Clarify the problem that needs addressing before ordering work.

Must intact PPF always be removed?

There is no universal answer; agree this with the accepting company. If removal is required, discuss its scope and cost separately.

Can all preparation be completed in one day?

Feasibility and timing depend on the selected work and vehicle condition. Give the return date and agree readiness, including drying, before booking.
