“Polishing” describes different products and jobs. This leads to advice to repeat it every year, assume glossy paint has been corrected or choose intensity from one gauge reading. The model year and time since previous work do not prescribe another correction. First clean the body appropriately and inspect what remains: surface marks, contamination, damage or properties of an existing coating. Gloss after washing and defects under directional light may look different.
If the appearance already meets your needs, additional abrasive work may be unnecessary. Wash marks, haze or holograms are reasons to discuss achievable improvement. Neither a yearly nor a two-year interval is a universal rule.
Abrasive correction removes material. Greater intensity does not create fresh clear coat and may not suit the surface. Some defects are worth retaining if complete removal would require excessive intervention; polishing cannot replace chipped or missing paint.
Select the scope using inspection, repair history and a test spot. No single removal amount in microns applies to every procedure, and there is no fixed lifetime allowance of safe polishes. Read about light and more intensive correction.
Check the product’s purpose and instructions. Wax, cleaner, abrasive paste and a masking product can have similar names while doing different jobs. Some combine functions. A “cream polish” is not automatically non-abrasive because of its label.

Total coating thickness is not the thickness of one clear layer. A reading helps assessment but does not replace knowledge of the paint system, panel material and previous work.
A number alone does not authorise correction. Repainted areas, edges, plastic, matte finishes and film can have different limits. Do not prescribe a job from a universal threshold in an article; inspect the surface and suitability of the measurement separately.
Ceramic coating and PPF serve different purposes and need suitable care. Neither excludes every new defect or guarantees a date for the next polish. Correction before protection depends on condition and the agreed appearance.
Tell the studio if the surface is already coated or wrapped before selecting a paste or method. Follow care requirements for that material; a standard glossy-paint process should not be transferred to film or matte surfaces without checking.
